Historic
Signs
We
have often noticed (in our Miata countryside drives)
that the Cultural Heritage Commission has posted a number
of 'blue' historical marker signs throughout the county.
Driving and almost any speed makes it rather difficult
to read the full content of any of these signs.
One
solution is to stop, pull over, and take the time to
read. In doing this (and feeling somewhat foolish) I
have started taking pictures of them. Although it is
a haphazard search, we hope to collect photos of as
many as possible.
Contacting
the Historical Commission, we discovered that there
have been 52 different signs posted throughout the county
(as of 2005). I
currently have photos of 38 so we still have a number
to locate. The county's records do not specify where
the various signs are located - only what they commemorate.
This make the 'collection' more like a scavenger hunt.
We
find ourselves paying more attention to the county's
surroundings and posted signs. Often - when we least
expect it - we are greeted with on of the signs not
on our 'collected list'. It simply creates some additional
enjoyment to our leisure rides throughout different
parts of the county.
